DEMA Engineering is currently searching for a Mechanical Sustaining Engineer.

Mechanical/Sustaining Engineer


Reports To:  Engineering Manager (Proportioning) DEMA Engineering Co.


Job Summary

Position will focus on supporting existing products through design improvements, testing and aiding the factory with any questions related to products. The position will also consist of setting up and validating product line extensions as dictated by Sales and Marketing


Education, Training, Skills and Licenses Required

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering
  • Knowledge of SolidWorks, Autocad LT, fluid dynamics, plastics, and basic design
  • Design skill set for plastic, sheet metal, and molding
  • Can work effectively with all levels of the organization (technicians, sales representatives, customer service employees, outside vendors, and customers)
  • Ability to read blueprints and use a scientific calculator
  • Knowledge in fluid dynamics and FEA analysis
  • Fluent in all Microsoft applications
  • Excellent problem solving and multitasking skills
  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal


Essential Functions

  • Existing Product Improvement
  • Designing, testing & prototyping of molded & machined products
  • Evaluation of existing and new parts per print specification
  • Communication with customers (Internal and External)
  • Creating models for prototype parts and final products
  • Setup & update bill of material and prints per ECN
  • Create test reports, engineering specification and instruction sheet (Also assist in any fixture design with relation to tests and production specification)
  • Assist customer & Gerald Industries in resolving their problems
  • Assist sales department with design concepts and prototypes per their customer specification
  • Interact with manufacturing engineer department to design or modify test fixtures and to assist in production of parts when needed


Marginal Functions

  • Dimensioning of newly designed parts
  • PDM/Solidwork Administrator
  • Other duties as assigned by the Engineering Manager


Equipment Used

  • Computer, calculator, phone, fax & copier machine, dial calipers, tape measure


Work Environment This job operates in a professional office/lab environment and manufacturing/assembly environment.  Office area consists of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.  Lab environment consists of hand tools, meters, oscilloscope, work benches, testing machines and other generic testing equipment.  Manufacturing/assembly environment includes no air conditioning and loud machine noises.  Occasionally oil and coolant is present in the air.  Employee is required to wear safety glasses.  

Physical Requirements

The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear.  The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 40 pounds.  Specific vision abilities include close, distant, peripheral depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
